Igalia’s compilers team is pleased to announce the release of a new white paper that surveys the field of cross-platform mobile application development frameworks.

This report takes a deep dive into five competing open source projects: Capacitor, React Native, NativeScript, Flutter, and Ark. We describe the structure of each framework and identify commonalities and differences.

Based on these observations, we look toward the future and predict what developments are likely in the near term, and we identify promising areas of the design space to explore in the mid term. Spoiler alert: there be compilers!
