This year we celebrate 20 years of being open for business and 20 years of contributions to the free and open software community. We are proud to celebrate for so many reasons. 20 years ago, a group of young developers decided to embark on a journey to work in the world of free software. They believed that they could not only contribute to the industry, but that they could do so while working towards making the technology industry and the world a better place. Igalia became an active contributor to the GNOME ecosystem, and started doing R&D activities 20 years ago. Since then we have become the world’s leading web engine consultancy, consistently being a top contributor to the WebKit and Chromium projects, and have a significant presence in several upstream projects including but not limited to: WebKit, Chromium, Mesa 3D, GStreamer and Servo. Igalia is now a global company, working with customers all over the world , while still contributing to the world of open software.

Igalia has expanded from the initial group of 10 engineers to a family with over 100 members. Sticking to their goal of making the world a better place, we have expanded our team to include diverse members from over 23 countries. We have also succeeded in establishing equality for members and creating a true work-life balance via a democratic and egalitarian structure. In order to help improve the diversity and advancement of future developers, Igalians mentor junior developers in free and open software and consistently look for ways to help those in under-served communities enter the field.

Finally, we’re proud that Igalia continues with our goal of social responsibility by donating 0.7% of our income to a list of NGO activities such as Health, Education, Environment, Animal welfare, etc, selected by all Igalians. In addition to the 0.7%, we have also collaborated with reforestation projects, solar plants and other social projects.

We have accomplished a lot in the past 20 years, and are looking forward to making an even larger impact technically and socially in the future. In celebration of this milestone, we would like to unveil our 20th anniversary logo. We are also pleased to announce the launch of a special mini-site that shares our journey and highlights some of our accomplishments.
