The 2020 Web Engines Hackfest will not happen in May
Here at Igalia, we were very excited about the upcoming Web Engines Hackfest. Having a dedicated conference facility with plenty of space for all who wanted to join, and enough individual rooms to ensure every subgroup had a place to work, suggested that this year’s Hackfest would be the best yet. Then COVID-19, the latest coronavirus, happened.
As you are no doubt aware, many events have already been canceled. Many companies have stopped all non-essential travel. Maybe things will be much better by May; then again, maybe they won’t. Given all the uncertainty, we concluded that our only real option was to cancel May’s event and hope that attendees had not already finalized their travel arrangements.
As for what the plan is, that remains to be determined. Perhaps we can move the Hackfest to the fall. Then again, we may find that skipping 2020 and resuming in 2021 is the wisest option. Regardless, we will update you here as soon as we have a better understanding of the situation.
