10 years of collaboration with NGOs
Social Responsibility is a core value that has defined Igalia since its foundation. One of the initiatives we took in 2007 was to donate 0.7% of our yearly revenue to support the activities of several NGOs. When we started this program, we hoped to contribute to the United Nations 2015 Millennium Development Goals. We focused in particular on organizations that aligned with our values and which we believed would help to make the world a better place.
Internally, we use a participatory process to decide which NGOs will receive donations each year. First, there is a committee that receives proposals for candidate NGOs which may come from any member of the staff. This group of people also reviews the actions of NGOs from previous years in order to ensure that our donations have been put to good use and also to propose changes for the next year.
At the end of the year, a collection of NGOs are presented to the staff with an overview of their goals, activities and how our donation would be used in the following year. These candidate organizations cover a wide range of focus and include internationally-known names as well as locally focused charities.
At this moment, we have a good estimation of the amount that represents 0.7% of our revenue. The total amount is divided evenly among the staff, who assign their share to the organizations as they wish.
In 2017 16 NGOs received donations: UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), Oxfam Intermón, Engineers Without Borders (EWB), Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC), WWF, Proactiva Open Arms, AFAL Ferrolterra, Gatocan, AVEMPO, Fundación Abrente, Educo, Planned Parenthood, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Southern Poverty Law Center and Against Malaria Foundation.
We are very proud of reaching this milestone and we are committed to continuing to donate 0.7% of our revenue and maintaining our collaboration with NGOs all around the globe.
